Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

In this Psalm, David confesses his sin and cries out for mercy from God whom he knows is merciful and full of loving kindness. God wants us to be close to him and to experience the fullness of relationship with him. But sin that remains unconfessed makes such intimacy impossible. We must ask his forgiveness and genuinely desire to stop the offense. God delights in this kind of repentance and is just to forgive. Like David we can ask God to cleanse us from within, to create a pure heart and spirit within us.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.

In these verses Jesus comforts our hearts.

He had just told his disciples that the time had come for him to go away and leave them. Like the disciples we need not be afraid, but we must trust and have faith.

How can we know the way to God? Jesus is the way to God. Trust Jesus to take you to the Father. Let’s pray “Thank you God for providing a path to get to you!” and rejoice knowing that Jesus has promised eternal life to all who believe in him.

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

As followers of Christ, we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. In other words, we “let go” of our life and we “let God” live through us. This new life with God then begins on earth and continues forever with God.

We know that the power of sin over us died with Christ on the cross. This does not mean that we will not sin again. We still have the sinful nature that goes all the way back to Adam. It means that the power of sin in our lives has been defeated.

Because of Christ’s death and resurrection we need never fear death. We live for the glory of God and as we experience this new life, the Holy Spirit helps us become all that Christ wants us to be.

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

To the Jews, the high priest was the highest religious authority in the land. He alone entered the Holies of Holy in the Temple once a year to make atonement for the sins of the whole nation. How can we approach God today?

Christ is our high priest, our representative before the Father. We can take comfort knowing that Christ understands. Though he did not sin, in his life as a human being he did experience temptation and can sympathize with us. He entered into God’s presence in heaven bearing the blood of his own sacrifice, a sacrifice that was necessary to cleanse us of our sins and to give us eternal life. “It is finished,” Jesus said on the cross. All his work of redemption had been completed.

And now, our high priest is at the right hand of the Father, at this very minute, making intercession for you and me. Because Christ has made this new and living way into the presence of the Father, let us come boldly to the throne of grace. We can rejoice that the sin question is settled forever.

Dear Friends,

Just one year after it was discovered in Haiti and just shy of a year of when Eben-ezer Clinic accepted its first patient, cholera is on the rise again.

Since November of last year, the Eben-ezer Clinic cholera treatment centre (CTC) has treated approximately 3,000 patients. After the initial outbreak, the number of cases began to decrease steadily in the new year and by March or April, the CTC was treating less than 10 patients a day. Over the spring and summer months, the CTC remained open to treat 3 or 4 patients per day with staff from Eben-ezer Clinic and nurses provided by the Ministry of Public Health in Haiti.

In the past couple of weeks, the number of cases began to increase to about 20 by last week. Over this past weekend, the numbers surged and we are currently treating 60 patients.

We cannot do this alone. Over the past year, we have received generous financial support from several organizations and individuals in Canada, the United States as well as Doctors without Borders and the Haitian Government and we are grateful. To continue to operate the CTC and provide quality care, we are asking again for your financial support.

We need to increase the number of nurses and support staff in the CTC to ensure quality of care for our patients. Cholera is a treatable disease if caught early enough and given the proper attention.

The Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada, one of Eben-ezer Clinic’s partners, is accepting donations for cholera relief. To make a donation by cheque, please make it payable to:

Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada
PO Box 34025, RPO Fort Richmond
Winnipeg, MB R3T 5T5

Please include a note that it is for Haiti Cholera Relief.

To donate online, please follow the link…

http://www.canadahelps.org/CharityProfilePage.aspx?CharityID=s12866

and designate your gift to “Haiti Clinic” from the drop down box and write “cholera relief” in the comment box.

Tax receipts will be provided.

Please pray for the patients and as well as the staff and board of Eben-ezer Clinic as we face this challenge again.

Blessings,
Janelle Peterson

Theme for this year: WORDS HAVE POWER

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Proverbs 18:21

We thank Genoveve Zepeda for these photos taken during Snow Daze 2011 (February 25, 26, 27)

And now as we go on our way
may Jesus undo our watered-down,
sanitized and sugar-coated faith,
so that we may follow Him into a heroic life
where our comfort zones are undone
so that we are not afraid to become
countercultural and counter comfortable.

Holy Spirit, reveal a God who is bigger
than all we can figure out
and who loves us beyond what we can imagine.

Give us the courage and the commitment
to work together so that none
of God’s work remains undone.

We will play games, have snacks, and do crafts but our goal is to build a foundation for faith and help students grow a life long relationship with Jesus Christ. We hope to have fun but our main objective is to teach kids about God’s plan and His great love for us that made a way for us to live in relationship with God.
